EFSL Championships
I've had several inquires as to what the entry procedures are for swim meets. Here's a break down.
A. Champs is a qualifying meet and there are 3 ways that a swimmer can qualify to compete.
1. Meet the minimum time standard for a specific event (attached to this e-mail).
2. Get "picked up" in an event when an event can't be filled with qualified swimmers.
Example 1: 10 & Under Girls, 200 Freestyle. There are 6 swimmers qualified and 2 of those swimmers don't want to swim the event leaving 4 swimmers in the event (math in public).
There are 10 lanes in the Berlin pool so that means to fill the heat 6 swimmers will be "picked up."
On the EFSL web page are the league standings. If you go to the 10 & Under Girls, 200 Freestyle and look below the qualification line the league will go down that list until the heat is filled or they run out of swimmers.
You would be surprised how far down the list they go to fill the 200 Free and 200 IM in the 10 & Under and 11/12 age groups.
Example 2: 17 - 19 Boys, 100 Fly. There are 16 swimmers qualified of which 13 have indicated they will swim the event. The league will need to fill that 2nd heat with 7 swimmers. The same process applies as in example 1.
3. The 3rd and final way that a swimmer can swim at champs is to be selected as an alternate for a particular event (there are 2 alternates for every event).
If a swimmer does not show up for their event at the meet, the alternate will be called to swim. This does happen and alternates have placed in the top 3 for that event.
Champs is a lot of fun.
See you at the pool!
